From Lagos to Parakou: AIT's Legacy of African Pride Earns Continental Recognition

LAGOS, NIGERIA – African Independent Television (AIT), a privately owned, foremost African television station is set to receive the Special Award of Excellence in Indigenous Language and Cultural Broadcasting at the forthcoming African Indigenous Language Film Festival (AILFF'26) and Asha Yoruba Festival in Parakou, Benin Republic.

The honour recognizes AIT's pioneering role in promoting African languages, culture, and indigenous storytelling at a time when African identity was often underrepresented in mainstream broadcasting.

Long before it became fashionable, AIT proudly showcased African attire, indigenous names, and authentic African voices on television, helping to redefine broadcasting standards and inspire cultural pride across the continent.

The station also played a significant role in the growth of Nigeria's film industry by commissioning African-themed productions and providing filmmakers with a platform to reach wider audiences.

According to the festival organizers, AIT's commitment to promoting African values and indigenous content has made it one of the continent's most influential media institutions.

The award will be presented during the grand Awards Night and Closing Ceremony at L'Hotel Metropole, Parakou, on 25 July 2026, in the presence of filmmakers, academics, cultural leaders, media professionals, and delegates from across Africa.

The recognition forms part of the broader mission of AILFF'26 and the Asha Yoruba Festival to celebrate institutions and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to preserving and promoting African languages, cultures, and stories for future generations.
