National Troupe Sets Aside Speeches, Turns to Song to Celebrate Nigeria’s Diversity
“Songs Across the Nation” takes audiences on a musical journey through Nigeria’s many cultures and sounds
LAGOS, NIGERIA — What if Nigeria’s story could be told without a long speech—through rhythm, melody and the voices of its people?
That is the question at the heart of the National Troupe of Nigeria’s (NTN) 2026 music presentation, “Songs Across the Nation,” as the Troupe prepares to celebrate Nigeria’s diversity through the universal language of music.
The presentation is scheduled for Monday, October 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. prompt at the National Troupe of Nigeria Amphitheatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
Rather than making the celebration another occasion dominated by formal speeches and ceremony, the National Troupe is putting music centre stage—bringing together traditional folk songs, choral compositions and contemporary musical expressions to reflect the richness and diversity of Nigeria’s cultural landscape.
When a Nation Sings
For the National Troupe, music offers something that speeches often cannot.
It crosses borders. It moves between languages. It connects generations. And, perhaps most importantly, it creates a shared emotional experience among people from different cultural backgrounds.
“Music has always travelled across boundaries,” organisers noted. “It crosses language, ethnic and generational lines in ways that words sometimes cannot.”
Through “Songs Across the Nation,” the Troupe seeks to demonstrate that Nigeria’s musical heritage is not simply something preserved in archives or remembered from the past. It is a living and evolving expression of the Nigerian experience.
More Than a Concert
“Songs Across the Nation” is designed as a cultural encounter, rather than simply another musical performance.
By bringing different musical traditions and contemporary expressions onto one stage, the presentation provides an opportunity to explore the relationship between music, cultural identity, heritage and national unity.
At a time when questions about Nigeria’s identity and cultural heritage continue to generate important conversations, the event offers a different response: let the culture speak—and let the music be heard.
Osezua Stephen-Imobhio Named Special Guest of Honour
Adding further significance to the evening, filmmaker, producer, festival director and cultural advocate Osezua Stephen-Imobhio has been invited as the Special Guest of Honour.
In an invitation signed by Adeniyi Monica, Assistant Director, Music, on behalf of the Artistic Director/CEO of the National Troupe of Nigeria, the Troupe described the presentation as an initiative that goes beyond entertainment.
The event is intended to celebrate Nigeria’s collective cultural heritage, encourage artistic excellence and reaffirm the important role of the performing arts in projecting Nigerian identity.
For Stephen-Imobhio, whose career spans film and television production, indigenous-language cinema, film festivals, cultural advocacy and the promotion of Nigeria’s musical heritage, the invitation represents a fitting convergence of his longstanding engagement with the creative and cultural sector.
A Nation’s Story, Told in Melody
From the traditional to the contemporary, “Songs Across the Nation” promises an evening in which Nigeria’s cultural diversity takes centre stage—not as a collection of separate identities, but as different voices contributing to one national story.
The National Troupe is therefore inviting artists, cultural practitioners, creative-industry stakeholders, members of the diplomatic and cultural community, and the general public to join the celebration.
Because sometimes, the story of a nation does not need another long speech.
Sometimes, it only needs a song
